A drifter. The class of vessel that does such invaluable work with the Fleet. Among the duties they perform are patrolling entrances to harbours, etc. (armed for attack and defence), carrying mails, transhipping officers and men, carrying messages from flagships, etc.

Never actually an RFA. Was "in Admiralty Service" 1916 - 20.
Better posted in Fishing vessels
