Sailed on the Pacific twice - once as cadet and then again as 3rd and 2nd mate and have many fond memories of the people and place. she was never the same after subic. I also know a Chief Engineer who has built a R-C scale model of her, pretty impressive.

The sparky who made the video was quite a character. he used to wear a top hat with a stuffed parrot on his shoulder during berthing and departure. got a lot of funny looks from the pilots, i can tell you.

Hello guys

Port Kembla is still going strong in the Bluescope (ex BHP) trade in iron ore although it is mostly done with foreign ships. The only ex BHP ships left still trading iron ore to Port Kembla these days are: Pacific Triangle and Iron Yandi. Iron Kembla was replaced with the time chartered Lowlands Prosperity. All still Australian crew. Foreign managed.
Not sure of the year, Iron Pacific was sold to Bergensen (Norway) and renamed Berge Pacific. I think she is still sailing in that fleet.

Regards

Peter
