Islandmagee / Larne Ferry No 9

Islandmagee / Larne Ferry No 9

This is Dougie Hood, bringing his ferry into Islandmagee hbr. in the early 80's.

It was'nt always as empty, at 0730 and 1630 she was packed to the gunnal's with very little freeboard, ferrying the Ballylumford p.s. dayshift.

Hello Alan, hope this keeps connected for I was disconnected umpteen times when replying to yours on Sammy and fery No. 6.

I don't know, as when I seen them in the 60's and again here, I had assumed they were probably from Belfast, like the ones that ferried the shipyardmen over from the Ballast quay area to the Basin.

After Dougie and Sammy retired they must have sold them on, though both men have passed on now, so I can#t ask them, but one of the boats was in the White Harbour (Below the Blahole, near Cloghin Point,), but was in a bad state in late 90's after being swamped by the high seas coming over the harbour wall.

Thanks Kenny. Just a thought, as I like to keep a record of all locally-built boats/ships. Alan.
