JANUS

Sorry, just realised this image was posted by Threebs back in 2016.

Built for A. Currie & Co, Melbourne, Australia by Palmers of Jarrow. She was launched as a 4824 passenger-cargo ship on 12 April 1910 and powered by a 3 cylinder steam engine.
In 1913 she was purchased by British India Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. and registered at Calcutta without name change.
She is shown here in this lovely study sporting a garish dazzle paint scheme and looks every bit of the part.
On 7 January 1933 she was scuttle off Vizagapatam (Vizag to we Brocklebank lads) to act as a breakwater.

As built she had accommodation for 45 First Class Passengers and 32 Second Class Passengers. I am sure this was increased during the war, but in any event she should be in Passenger Ship's Gallery as she meets the Sites definition, which is in line with the old BoT definition of carrying more than 12 passengers.
