An Esbjerg pouter caught a killer whale in his trawl on the Papa Bank in the 70's. He had it lashed alongside the boat and was trying to cut a hole in his bag to release it when the boat dipped on the broadside and the whole thing rolled aboard. The beastie was then trapped in the alley between the side of the boat and the deckpounds. The Skipper, in light of what happened next said that he wished he had left it there to die instead of trying to save it.
The plan then was to haul the bag up using the derrick and a strop and letting the Orca slide down into the codend section where they would let it swing out over the side and cut/loose the codend rope. As they were heaving the codend up to do this the weight of the killerwhale ripped the already torn bag apart and it fell on to the deck where it proceeded to smash all the poundboards and stanchions to pieces. it even managed to knock the winch off of it's wooden mounting blocks. The winch then started rolling about the deck until it smashed through the gunwhale and over the side followed by the Orca. The boat was left badly listing with the winch hanging on the wires and if it hadn't been for the quick thinking of one of the crew who had the wherewithall to cut the wires with an axe they reckon they would have sunk.

She manged to limp into the Orkneys and make enough repairs to get them home to Denmark.

And the moral of the story is that pout fishing should be BANNED!!! more immature cod haddock and whitting than pout are caught from what iv seen.

i agree with that,and the boys fishing squid bags for haddocks sould have there b**ls cut off as well
