Fantastic set of photos.

Very short life !

Ironically another Union SS 1938 built ship the Komata was lost in 1940, when captured by German Raiders off Nauru.

A great photo Gordy, when I was in the Melbourne Trader, the Master a Captain McLeod was in the Kahika when she foundered near Buff Point and West Point, west coast of Tas. One fine evening on lookout he told me the whole story of that incident, as my then father in law had a fishing shack at Bluff Point and the sinking of the Kahika was always a subject that was bought up over a few beers and Cray fish when at the shack. Thanks for a great photo. Cheers from Lensoveta.
