Freshly launched by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardsons from their Wallsend Yard with her machinery built/installed by Wallsend Slipway & Engineering from the factory adjacent.
My old man worked on her as an apprentice - he was just coming 'out of his time' and finally qualified just as the war broke out.
Sadly this is another Tyne shipyard that no longer exists, thanks mainly to lack of post war investment, ludicrous decisions taken during nationalisation and obscure trade protectionism by the unions. I think the name is still in use but only for providing design services.
After selling all of the equipment to India (cranes, floating dock, heavy machinery, tenders), the real estate is now used as an offshore technology park - there is no shipbuilding - those skills are long lost, as was demonstrated in the failure of the Bay class contract.
