My grandfather's wartime ship, infantry landing craft LCI(L) 246. British-crewed, it took part in the landings at Omaha Beach on D-Day.

Built by New Jersey Shipbuilding Corporation, Barber, New Jersey. One of a large number built in several yards in 1942 and 1943. Transferred under Lend/Lease agreement to the RN. Powered by an ingenious installation of 8 General Motors Detroit 6:71 225HP diesel motors, 4 per shaft.

LCI/L 246 was returned to USN in 1946 and sold in Dec 1947, most likely for scrapping.
