Hello everybody, this is my first photo post, so it is apt that it is the first ship that I sailed on. Here she is transiting the Kiel Canal in 1967

Hi Ruud, She was a good ship and a good crew, I stayed onboard for 11 months.
I was onboard when the photo was taken and I still have it.
The funnel markings in the photo are the charter company "FAA" from Finland and not the owners ORION

Hi Ruud, nice photo of the Zeta. The German company"Orion Schiffahrts Gesellschaft" is an old company and exists today but the ships no longer have the "REITH" part of the name. The web address is http://www.orionbulkers.com/

The Finish company FAA (the first A has a dot over it) they had quite a few ships of their own in the 1960's, they had a black funnel with 2 white bands. I do not know if they are still around today. The company is called "FINSKA ANGFARTYGS AB" this link will take you there

Completed by Lindholmens Verkstads AB, Gothenburg, as S/S Ariadne for Finska Ångfartygs Aktiebolaget, Helsinki.
Put on Helsinki - Tallinn - Stettin line.
4.8.1914
Requisitioned by Russian Govt. and stationed as hospital ship in Helsinki.
4.1918
Left in Helsinki at the withdrawal of the Russians. Recovered by Finska Ångfartygs Aktiebolaget.
1919
After reconditioning put on Helsinki - Hanko - Stockholm and Helsinki - Copenhagen - Hull lines.
1921
Returned to Helsinki - Tallinn - Stettin service.
1938
Rebuilt by Sandvikens Skeppsdocka, Helsinki, and fitted with forecastle.
1939
When the war broke out, stationed at first in Uusikaupunki, later in Holmsund, Sweden and Stockholm.
1942
Chartered to the German Navy as hospital ship for carriage of wounded soldiers to Germany until 1943.
1944
Used as hospital ship in the Gulf of Bothnia.
1944
Surrendered to Soteva (Board of War Reparations Industry), but went aground on Dec. 25 at Enskeri shallow off Hamina while on delivery voyage from Helsinki to Leningrad.
1945
Refloated in May and brought on June 13 in tow to Helsinki, where laid up after provisional repairs.
10.1946
Moved to Sandvikens Skeppsdocka for rebuilding and lengthening.
20.6.1948
Delivered from the shipyard after lengthening by 6.10 m and rebuilding, which increased her ice class to I B.
Put into Helsinki - Copenhagen service.
1967
Replaced by the new m/s Finlandia on Copenhagen line and put into Helsinki - Tallinn service.
1968
Sailed her last season on Turku - Stockholm line, whereafter laid up in Helsinki.
22.7.1969
Sold to Helsingin Romuliike for demolition in Helsinki and towed on July 31 to the scrapyard.
