Ahoy,
Very nice slide show, you must have enjoy it, as passengers;but I didn't, in that winter of 62-63,when we were stocked in the frozen Bothnian Bay,nearby Luleå, for nearly 7 weeks. What a cold!!!!!
Thanks Ruud. Its different when some one else do'es the work and you can relax. It was so quiet and the air so pure. Where is Lulea, and what did you do for 7 weeks. It must have been like being a prisoner. Barney.
Ahoy Barney,
Luleå is one of the ports, most Northly of the Swedish East Coast, and is situated in the Baltic Sea=Bothnian Gulf/Bay; we just had to wait untill the icebreakers came along, and that was a hell of a job, and got provisions from the Swedish Navy heli's.We played some kind of soccer on the ice, with some Russians that also were stocked.Yes in a kind of way we were prisoners; temperatures at noon -29* and at night below 40 degrees; I had some pics of this, but cann't find them. Will try to find them. The heating on board was at minimum, so it was pretty cold. But in daytime a clear sky,no wind, and plenty sun, you didn't noticed the cold, but we were warned not to touch the railings or other steel with our hands. We were very unanimous, all together.
Didn't go ashore here but did at Ny Alsund a bit further south, As an aside whilst in the Magalina Fjord, Sage Rose joined us. A bit like Litte and Large!
