Motor yacht Ilonda, a James Baines designed 54' Silver Ormidale. My brother bought and restored her, living aboard for several years on the River Hamble. A beautiful and comfortable boat. Apparently now in Holland.
Couldn't really say, it appeared original, it was certainly an old addition if not original. Unfortunately I haven't seen many other Silver Ormidales and those I have seem to have a variety of differences. My brother's also had deck storage chests set halfway back from the bow (not shown in this picture) which seemed original. Not sure if some were built to owner's spec. It also looked a lot better when the monstrosity on the mast was lowered onto the deckhouse!! I've been trying to find out more information about Silver's and Ilonda's history, but not much about.
It was an addition, made of steel. I think it was done to give more clearance when raising the anchor, it certainly worked well and also supported the non original pulpit.
Certainly a popular name at one time, there was four of them!!, two were designed by John Bain, this one and Ilonda III. This one was built in 1951 at Rosneath but re-engined in 1971 with 6cy Thornycroft's x2, a very reliable marinised Ford truck engine with natural dynamic balance but fitted with those multi-vane Jabsco pump's which could prove to be a nuisance if the multi-vane was not renewed every year. Her Owner in 1973 lived in Caernarvon. Certainly a nice looking boat, well built along with caring Owner's which is why she is still around today no doubt,(Thumb)
