Built 1913 by Bremer Vulkan, Bremen, for Norddeutscher Loyd, Bremen, as "Sierra Salvada". 1917 "Avaré", Lloyd Brasileiro, Rio. 1923 "Peer Gynt", Hamburg. 1924 "Neptunia", Genoa. 1927 "Oceana", Hamburg-Amerika Linie, Hamburg. 1934 chartered by Deutsche Arbeits Front for "Kraft durch Freude" cruises for nazi workers, but still manned by HAL.
Taken by the Kriegsmarine on the 2nd. September 1939. She overlived WW2, and was taken over by the Brits, using her for troops transport back home. October 1945 was striken by a mine and towed to Cuxhaven for repairs. Taken over by the soviets as "war prize", she became "Sibir", plying the route Siberia-Petropawlosk and others farther Nord.
She was not seen by western eyes since then.
