Anthony, if your Mother sailed on Oronsay on that voyage in 1971 the departure port was Southampton not Tilbury as P&O were not using Tilbury by then. I was 3R/O on that voyage.
Hi Tony,
I was living in Tasmania at the time since 1967, I was under the impression that all P.& O. ships still sailed out of Tilbury at that time
so my Mother must have Trained it down to Southampton, I was not aware of that, thanks for setting the record straight, She did sail backto England on the Southern Cross of that year.
sailed into here on orcades the scenery is pretty breath taking ,a really nice part of the world think it was the only date line crossing part of the cruise we did. orcades never went through panama to go out to aussie,i believe it was something to do with her out dated fire fighting equipment that the yanks were not happy with.
don
I've just come back from Pago on Friday - Not much has changed! In the background, the site of the canneries and the boat lift. The cable car is no more. When my compu is fixed I'll post more photos.
Rgds.
