SS Parahyba, built by W. Doxford & Sons, Sunderland in 1889 and owned at the time of her loss by A. Lanfranco, Montevideo, was an Uruguayan steamer of 2606 tons.
On January 19th, 1917, Parahyba, on a voyage from Clyde to Saint Nazaire with a cargo of coal, was scuttled, using explosives by the German submarine UC-18 (Wilhelm Kiel), 5 miles South of La Vieille lighthouse, Audierne, Brittany. There were no casualties.
