NYK's woodchip carrier Regno Marinus anchored off Brisbane recently, awaiting instructions to sail for Japan.

This vessel loaded woodchips at Bell Bay Tasmania last February and then went to anchor in Bass Strait off Low Head for over 4 weeks. The cargo was bound for Japan but due to the world economic crisis the purchase was put on hold and she sat at anchor. Other woodchip carriers were turned away from Burnie for the same reason. Interesting that she only moved as far as Brisbane to await instructions, I suppose it is a bit calmer and warmer than Bass Strait.
Cheers.....Bill

Hi Bill,
I had the job of getting 150 tonnes of water, and stores out to her in Morton Bay.
I hired a tug that could hold fresh water, and had deck space for stores containers.
It cost so much, I decided to tag along on one of the three runs it took. Hence the photo.
I hope the wood chips she had on board is now newsprint informing the Japanese that the recession is now over.
