Posted same picture twice for some reason. Not sure how to delete it.

Whats that at the top of the stern door, is it just an extention of the ramp?

It's the hinged part of the stern ramp. When the ship was rebuilt in the late '90's, the flight deck was lowered by one deck and so the stern door would have stood proud of the deck; hence the hinged design to retain the required length. The Bridge was lifted by one deck and so her profile is quite different from the original design.

Thanks Shaun, I keep forgetting how old she is! She is a smart looking ship, but I still prefer the old shape.
Did you serve on any of the other Sirs? If so, how does she compare in rough conditions, it was a long time ago but I'm sure I heard they were a lot fun in the rough due to the hull shape?

I am glad you think she is a smart ship as I love her to bits! She is longer than the old ships, far more capable, much less vibration, very smooth and quiet as well as being a better sea ship although she can still be lively at times. I have served in GERAINT, TRISTRAM (both versions), PERCIVALE and the old GALAHAD so have done my bit of LSL time. Off to CARDIGAN BAY next but think that the rebuilt BEDI is the best LSL by a country mile. TRISTRAM has a special place in my thoughts as I served in her during the Falklands and the rebuilt version was my first Command. I also served in the ex-commercial Ro-Ro LAMORAK and she rolled on wet grass.

Lamorak wasn't a true LSL.
But that is correct, they sure could roll. When in Tristram it was the only time in my 26 years at sea that I've ever been thrown out of my bunk. (Thumb)
