British Antarctic Survey supply and research vessel RRS “John Biscoe” at Port Stanley, Falkland Islands in 1974.
She was launched on June 11th 1956 and named after the English Antarctic explorer who discovered parts of Antarctica in the 1830’s. She operated until 1991 and was eventually scrapped at

Just my era sailed on her outward from Southampton to South Georgia in 1972 via Recife where we landed a poor woman with appendicitis taken off a Panamanian ship with the launch onward to Montevideo and Stanley, a very happy ship
