Hallo Rui Amaral:
Very nostalgic photo.Proof of Scottish craftsmanship building such ships that lasted for over 50 years who know how long she had lasted if not wrecked!!!!
In the late 50thies a Portuguese dory ship was wrecked in Greenland her name was Santa Maria Madalena and many of her dorys ended up in the Faroes brought home by fishermen who was engaged in rescuing her crew i used to use one of them a relative of me brought one home.
Do you have a photo of her????
In the 60thies there was a collision between the Portuguese trawler Santa Mafalda and the Icelandic trawler Narfi and unfortunately Santa Mafalda sank.
This happened on the fishing banks of NewFoundland
Do you have any photo of her???

I am very astonished to know that portuguese codfishing one man dories from wrecked SANTA MARIA MADALENA were carried to Faroe Isles and your information is very interesting to me (It’s a pity no photo available). I am sorry but I have no pics from m/v STA. MARIA MADALENA and side trawler JOÃO ALVARES FAGUNDES not SANTA MAFALDA, this was lost at Lisbon, anyway you may search in the Ships Nostalgia my pic of the m/v SÃO RUY, sister-vessel of the STA. MARIA MADALENA, or search SANTA MARIA MANUELA, which 4 masts schooner is alongside with her at Viana do Castelo. The JOÃO ALVARES FAGUNDES was collided by Icelandic NARFI off Labrador and sunk in fifteen minutes, on the 18/03/1965. Search http://caxinas-a-freguesia.blogs.sapo.pt/2209.html or Blog Blue Moon Julho 2006, where you will met pics of the STA. MARIA MADALENA wreck at Faeringehaven on the 13/08/1959 and pics of the J.A.FAGUNDES sister vessels, the ALVARO MARTINS HOMEM and JOÃO CORTE REAL. Meanwhile If I met any photo of both vessels I will post in Nostalgia.

Hallo Rui Amaral:
Thank you for replying
Owners from the Faroes had 4 trawlers built in Portuguese shipyards in 59/60
Their names:Leivur Øssurson Vaagbingur and Olavur Hollig all diesel trawlers built by Viano do Castelo.
The Magnus Hansson was a steam trawler.Cant remember wich yard built it

I was investigating about the Portuguese shipyard, which has built the Magnus Hansson but have no success.
Re the other three buildings by ENVC(Viana do Castelo Shipyard) in 1959, I remember that our press said that was a good event the construction of that trio for a Faroe Islands owners.
