When the drilling rig "Ocean Ranger" sank in the Hibernia Oil Field off Canada in February 1982. The Seaforth Highlander was one of the vessels that went to her aid. The weather conditions were sever, by the time the Seaforth Highlander arrived at the location, the crew had abandoned the rig. One lifeboat was seen with personnel on board and a rescue attempt was carried out but a lifeline parted and despite the crews efforts none were saved.
The Seaforth Highlander herself faired little better as she was lost while transporting anchor chains. All crew survived.
