The Short S.8/8 Rangoon was a 1930s British three-engined biplane flying-boat built by Short Brothers and (under licence) by Breguet in France between 1933 and 1937. It was a military version of the Short S.8 Calcutta, and was ordered as a replacement for the Southampton IIs operated by No. 203 Squadron RAF from Basra, Iraq. Rangoons provided useful service to the Royal Air Force, the French Navy and, (converted for civilian use), Imperial Airways. The last British Rangoon was taken out of service in 1938.
Scratch-built 1:48 scale.

Nicely set up Ken. Now, if you used a fan to turn the props when you photographed them........ :)
Did all the FBs have hard standing ability (ie undercarriage) or did some of them have to be cradled to get them on dry land?

Very nice aircraft model photos you are posting Ken. Before my time and not being versed up on the original aircraft, what are the actual dimensions of your model (ie: length and wingspan) when built to 1:48 scale? That`s a good suggestion too from Tony, re:a fan for turning the props. If your camera is up (or down) to it, a slower shutter speed would certainly give the impression of prop movement.

Hello Donald: For the Short S8 dimensions are: LOA: 17" Span:23.5" Height: 6". At 1/4 inch per foot (1:48 scale) that translates to a wingspan of 94 feet! A good sized aircraft, but lots of wing area required to lift the craft given the considerable drag (water and air) and low power of the early aero engines.
Also respecting the prop motion, not possible with digital,it even stops both main and tail rotors on a Sea King! Hope this is of help. Rgds,Ken

Thanks Ken, and yes, very helpful. You`ll need a big area for showing them off, or even for storage!
