Singapore Harbor

Ship towards left with black and white topsides appears to be called City __ _____, which may be City of __ or City to __. From Gran's journal: Watched Malay, Chinese Indian dock laborers loading rubber. 250 lb bales on truck – one man bounces a bale off and two others try to make it go of itself on sling – 10 bales make a load which crane lifts up in to ship.

Vessel ahead one of BI`s `C` class perhaps, flying the blue peter & getting ready for departure in the near future.

Well it's obviously an Ellerman Liner so it would be City of ......!

The vessel behind her is a Glen Lines with a British India Liner at the bow of the ship in which the photo was taken but I am sure there will be experts on here who can identify them.

The Ellermann ship, I think, one of several sisters. City of Auckland, City of Newcastle and City of Winnipeg being three of them, but there were some others.

Regards.

B.I. looks like PURNEA (1947-71). None of the "C" class had the type of lifeboat davits as shown. Glen boat a "Glenogle" class.

Ellerman ship ? ....... I'd go for the 'City of Wellington'. I note that the picture was taken 1963, that year I was sailing on 'City of Glasgow' which with the 'City of Eastbourne' and 'City of Wellington' were regulars on UK/Continent - Far East , definitely not the first two.

Looking at full resolution, it might be City of Ripon. Thanks for Ellerman clue.

City of Ripon is also a very good option - is in the group of the several sisters.

My first ship in 65 was City of Ripon [ Paddy Horan Old Man and the Mate was Henderson ]. She was on the Far East run with four sisters / Newcastle / Colombo / Wellington and Winnipeg. One of my last was the Winnipeg [ as Delhi ] after she came back from Ben Line.
