Steyning - about to be a film star

Definitely one of the Stephenson Clarke colliers, either 'Lancing' or 'Steyning' built around 1958 and later lengthened.

The house in the background used to be mine, 'Transit Rd' 30 seconds walk from the 'Shades' or Harbour Tavern as was !!!!!!

Hard to say, but, comparing photos I'm plumping for 'Steyning'.

The Best Boy was Thomas Bone.

Thanks for the info. Should have remembered the Steyning and Lancing. Stevie Clark's colliers were regular callers. Anyone remember 'Keynes'? She ran here for years.

Just to throw another name in the hat: STEYNING yes, but LACING was a wee bit later and marginally different. STEYNING's real sister was PORTSLADE.

was the 'Shoreham' the same class ? I know the later 'Cowdray differed with some slight streamlining.

Somewhat similar in size and appearance but not an Austin build like the other three.

Hi there meechingman ! Its not Lancing.She was sailing for Lisca Shipping Co.S.A Panama managed by Alvar Olsson, Sweden renamed Landing by the time of making the movie "Raiders of the lost ark" so I will guess its the Steyning as well.

Hi Les ! The Steyning was built 1955 by Austin & Pickersgill, Sunderland.
Sold 1971 renamed Ballywalter, sold 1979 renamed Sallywalter (possibly for the film !) renamed 1979 Abeer Delta out of LR between 1990 and 1993.
