Thames

With a name like that, you would not expect her to be flying a Dutch flag, but she is. She, with the help of another it seems, is towing the Braemar From the Thornycroft yard towards Aker Mek. in Oslo.

THAMES is probably more famous than the BRAEMAR! THAMES was owned by L Smit & Co, Rotterdam. Went through the war and the in the late 50 she was transferred to Overseas Towage & Salvage, London. Renamed SALVONIA. Bombay Light Reef caught up with her. Attempting to take a ship off the reef and she got the hawser around her screw. Came around and hit the reef.

Very interesting tug. "Thames" (1938; 624grt) of L. Smit, Rotterdam. Ocean going salvage tug. She was at sea at start of WW2, escaped to Britain and in 1940 became RN rescue tug. Involved in attempts to save "Empress of Britain" and "Ark Royal". Returned to owners post WW2. Became "Salvonia" in 1960.
