The Dominion Pub Liverpool

The Dominion Pub Liverpool

Sadly no more a pub, was situated opposite the PSNC berth Liverpool. In the sixties it had tables with the map of the World on them, many a navigator plotted courses on them during a few pints. As they done that a few ladies of the night were also plotting courses in a different direction for them.

Note on top of the roof at the gable end, is a figure of a shepherd and his dog, sadly the streetlamp is obscuring it. I wonder how many ex patrons that used the pub knew of its existence.

Hi Zealandic.
Glad you plotted your course to the ship and followed it, some did not and later had to plot a course to the Seamans Dispensary ( Dr Ross,s) in Cleveland Square.

Remember a boozy night there in the early 60s with the deck crowd of PSNC's Salaverry ( pronounced Slavery... at least we did).
Highlight of the evening was an EDH called Wally who could eat or at least chew glass. The look on the barmaids face, when she eventually came to clear up the tables, was a sight for sore eyes, A neat row of pint glasses each with a bite out of them.

This picture shows "Bankfieldstreet". Was the "Norsman Cub" situated in the same building? We had great times in this bar in the 1970's. Everybody all the best.

Spent many happy hours in there while on the Salvina and you are correct....our 2nd mate plotted our course across the Atlantic using two *** packets!
There was one of the "Irish" ships a few berths from us and they used it as well, by the time Sunday came between the 2 crowds we had drunk them out of Double Diamond, Scotch and Rum!

Hi Sailagain.
Yes the Norseman club was in Bankfield St which is the St where the car is parked. The club was a little further up that St on the left , plus another pub a Wilson house cant remember the name, they only had 3 pubs in Liverpool they had a black and yellow draught board as their logo. I think they used to be a Manchester Brewery and got swallowed up by larger breweries and disappeared.

I remember as a PSNC cadet in 1960 the ships did not feed aboard as we were in our home port. I think that we were paid 6/8d per day to feed ourselves. Approaching midday we would be sent across the road to the Dominion with a clean rubber deck bucket to get a bucket of beer and then next door into Stan Waters to get the officers orders of plain/toasted bacon and egg sarnies. On our way back to the ship the police officer at the dock gate would be the first one to dip his mug into our bucket.
