Demolition of a dock pub known to thousands of seamen.
Station Tavern just inside the dock gate at Tilbury.
The upper bars accessed from a walkway were known as 'Top Canteen'.
The bar at ground level was the 'Chainlocker..

This view is from the rear of the pub.
The walkway was to the left and continued past the 'Top Canteen'
to the other building in the picture which was the old PLA offices
and the Police Station.

Stumps -
Same old story - progress!
The land is required for developement!!
There was an identical building to this near the
drydocks in Tilbury - the 'Basin Tavern'..
It was destroyed by the Luftwaffe in 1940.
