I was P&O but when they went to Corparate colours I feel a lot was lost.To me Federal,Shipping Co etc was something.Hell P&O's black & buff would not excite anyone but it was P&O.It was the beginning of the end. Kiwi
I sailed on Taupo and Tekoa when they became Mandama and Mahsuri with Austasia Line of Singapore.
This was a sister company of Blue Star and the ships were managed by Blue Star Ship Management Liverpool/London.
Lovely ships and ideal for lamb from Kiwi to Gulf.
Good onya Brian.
But what a helluva way to get rid of good British seaman out of good British ships.
And as long as I shipped out of the U.K. nobody could ever tell me we were expensive.
Sorry mate, no Pound key on this thing.
A.B. 67 pound a week
1 pound 37.5p p/hr overtime. ( If you could get it).
And by Christ mate, you didn't sit on yer bum in a Ben boat with 7 hatches, 18 derricks and a couple o' lazy jumbos and a Cheuchter mate breathing down yer neck! ( Apologies to all Heilan' men, I doff me cap to you all, about the spelling of your ilk). And the Sheltie Bosun.
I know it's all in the past, but I'll be buggered if I'll ever forget.
Or forgive how a way of life and a type of people were scuppered.
