Turbine for the Victorian

Turbine for the Victorian

Low pressure turbine under construction for the S.S. Victorian. This ship and its turbines were built by Workman Clarke and Co for the Allen Line. Launched in 1904, this ship together with the similar vessel - The Virginian - were the first transatlantic liners to be powered by steam turbines.

The photo was scanned from the book The Marine Steam Turbine by J.W. Sothern (1st ed 1906) [This book is in the public domain - at American Library archive].
