Thats very true but orders of magnatude cheaper than raising the wheelhouse by 3ft ( 1m ) with all the stability issues that doing so means !!.

She was built in 1975 in mcduff as valonia BF.263 , sister to the Atlas BF.? , she was later 3/4 shelterd , came to the Isle of man in about 91 and fished for a year at the queenies and prawns before the shelter was removed and rigged for scallops as she is now.

Hi
Does the MCA approve arrangements with periscopes instead of a wheelhouse with sufficient height to get an outlook with no problems.
I remember the former GY 305 "Laurids Skomager" (present "Rachel") had a similar periscope on the old wheelhouse.
Thanks for posting this interesting pic.

Regards
Ole.

He could have been doing with a rear view periscope as well. By the looks of it he's put his trawl into the screw.

i was going to say that about the net being poorly stowed. but i thought it would be politicaly incorrect or bad manners maybe. i agree we blues like a few more o those ground gear discs and she would be away like. that would nmake entering the harbour a bit interesting to say the least

Ole when this boat was built they didn't need to have the periscope fitted but since a change in rules for forward visibility a lot of fishing boats have had to have periscopes fitted to comply

No I think his ground rope is in the screw and thats why he's on his way in. It looks like he's got it fast to the gallows block on the one side and the powerblock is holding it on the other side. I've seen this before when the screw can still turn but the net can't come free. Only thing to do is get a diver down to cut it away.
