One of Elder Dempsters Explorer Class. Carried her own surf boats seen here on the poop. Lost January 1943 by torpedo. Three of the crew where lost.

She was built for the African Steamship Company and registered in London - in 1930. In 1935 she was transferred to Elder Dempster Lines Ltd and registered in Liverpool. Like a number of other major shipping companies there were a number of divisions and ships were transferred between them. I notice that the Edward Blyden, another Explorer class was built for British and African Steam Navigation Co Ltd was registered in Liverpool. Bob
