WINTHROP VICTORY

WINTHROP VICTORY

SS WINTHROP VICTORY
Built by the California Shipbuilding Corporation as a VC2-S-AP2 Victory ship and delivered in June 1945.
By early 1970 she was part of the Reserve Fleet in Suisan Bay, California.
The photograph is a nice study of her berthed in New York.
During 2002 she was still laid up in Suisan Bay.

I have some shots of Winthrop Victory laid up at Suisun Bay. I was out there a couple of months ago. She's in truly awful condition.

Martinihenry. Thanks for your great collection of pictures from the Reserve Fleet. I towed many Victory ships, Troopers, and other wartime types out of Suisun bound for scrap. That was about twenty years ago, and they were in bad shape then. I can't believe their present condition. It was like a time warp going aboard as the crews walked off and everything was left as it was when the climbed down the gangway. I'd see bell books with pilot's names I knew well. Thanks again for the memories.
