My scratchbuilt model of Zim Hong Kong.
The sixth of seven container-ship sisterships of the Zim Israel class, Zim Hong Kong was built in 1991 by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft for Zim Israel Nav for service in their round the world service. Of 37,210 grt and 47,230 dwt, her capacity is 2,400 teus, powered by a Sulzer diesel giving 21 knots.
The model is made of styrene plastic at about a scale of 1/400. The hull is from a larger kit model and cut down to match scale and deck configuration. The accommodation block incl funnel is scratch built and decals home made. The colour scheme is accurate, but not yet finished in a coat of Johnsons Future Floor Polish.
I built her mainly as a reminder of nearly 25 years with Zim and my wife wants me to build a shelf in our garage on which to show her - definately not next to my other models.
