Sailed with Mibil between 74 & 77. Ch/off on Endurance, twice on Marketer, there when crew changed from Indian to Korean.
Stood by as Off/in charge at Tamano, Japan at end of building. Brought back to Glasgow via a cargo from Gulf to Portugal. Laid-up in Glasgow ( with a couple of weeks trip to Bremerhaven for alterations to bow). Worked the Beryl Alpha to UK. Came ashore September 1977.

Very good friend of mine, Terry Wright, was with Mobil from about 66 thro to Ch Off late 70s or early 80s; very sadly died from cancer about 23 yrs ago. He put it down to standing over ullage plugs and having to breth in the gas while sounding tanks

 

Sailed with Terry in late 70s when he was C/O on one of the P boats. Did not know he had gone - very sad - always remember him as somewhat of a rebel. I used to breathe that same gas (and also some more deadly stuff such as Toluene) but still here...

Think we just missed each other on the Marketer, when I joined they had not long had Korean crews, on that trip the Koreans were excellent in E.Rm anyway. (think they were hand picked), did another trip and they were mediocre!
Had two years on the Matco vessels, initially on the Thames and then the Clyde. After completing my 2yr stint I join Shell in 85 on the Brent Delta.
Took redundancy from Shell about 93 and went deep sea again with Hanseatic (based in Cyprus) on the Venfleet Tankers (Venezuelan company). After Venfleet I went back offshore on the Texaco Captain (Moray Firth) before working around the world on various projects for SBM, eventually calling it a day 1n 2016.
An interesting varied career, sailing ships were the best by far.
