A photo taken by my wife whilst on Ocean Monarch of 3/O Jonty Howard in front of Northern Star somewhere in the Pacific. The Monarch must have been anchored off somewhere in the vicinity?

my wife was an assistant purser with SSA from 1971 to 74 on Monarch and Star. I met her on the Star in Dec 1973. I was 3/0 on Star from August 73 until May 74.

I have Shaw Savill Passenger Timetables for 1971-3 and Ocean Monarch was scheduled to sail from Auckland for UK via Panama on May 24th 1972. She was due to arrive UK on June 25th. She then started UK cruises until November 3rd 1972 when she sailed for Auckland via Panama and San Francisco. She may therefore have been in Cadiz in Summer 1972.

I was on the Ocean Monarch from 1960 to 1962. on the old New York to Bermuda cruises along with the Queen of Bermuda. Because of the foul weather out of New York,, she was the first ship to start cruises out of Port Everglades Florida. That was a one horse town then. look at it now The Captain was Ray Marshall

Expect you may realise that that was a different Ocean Monarch to the Shaw Savill one (ex Canadian Pacific) mentioned in this thread? Having said that I sailed with Ray Marshall as Master on the Icenic in 1972. A good bloke.

The Ocean Monarch featured in this thread was not the 1957 one but one operated by Shaw Savill in the early 1970's. The Ocean Monarch of 1957 was owned by Furness Withy.
