I remember this quite well. The Argo Merchant was transporting a load of heating oil from Aruba to New England. The story at the time was that they were relying on radio bearings from Nantucket Light Ship, via radio direction finder, for navigation. However, supposedly, their radio bearings were 180 degrees out, which could happen if an RDF operator didn't know what he was doing. In other words, they believed that Nantucket Light Ship was ahead of them, when it was actually astern. To make matters worse, when the authorities attempted to hold the shipowners accountable for the disaster, the shipowners disappeared.
