port turn underway up the Tamar passing Cremyll buoy to port, all towards her final starboard turn up the Hamoaze. By now she was completely de- ammunitioned and on minimal fuel reserves and stores. The SPN ground control radar (white dome aft of the island) was already earmarked for Portland airbase as the ground radar. 824 Seaking squadron was moving from Ark to become the RFA pool flight squadron. 849 Gannet squadron had already disembarked and flown to St Athen to have their radars removed and passed to the RFA for the Shackleton AEW 8 squadron. Phantom and Buccaneers flown ashore for transfer to the RAF.

With the shared ownership of the F35's on the horizon! I know I can be a tad dopey but can someone explain why they can't leave a proven system of FAA on carriers and RAF on terra firma alone?? Great photo's FG, if a little sad!

spursnut - you ask a very pertinent question and both the RN and RAF wish they remained separate.
