hi ragnar
boston deep sea had 4 of this class built SEA GAZELLE ,SEA COBRA,SEA SPRITE,SEA VIXEN THEN THERE WERE THE SEA KNIGHT ,SEA KING AND SEA RANGER WHICH WERE A BIT BIGGER THEN CAME THE SEA DART,SEA FURY SEA STALLION WHICH WERE EVEN BIGGER AND THEN BIGGEST OF THE LOT THE SEA HARRIER.THEY ALL CAME OUT IN THE MID 70,S.i worked on them all i sailed out of lowestoft for quite a while.hope this helps.and by the way the boston sea gazelle was the boat used in the film the perfect storm,it was bought at auction in hull after it had been caught running drugs.the film company stripped her to the deck all apart from the bridge and made her look like the "ANDREA GAIL" i was contacted to build a model of her for some one and i was forwarded all the facts.
hope this helps

Colin the Speyside A4 and the Riverdee BF473 were built in Lowestoft to a very similar design in 1978. Both were the 80ft class.

Hi, Trawlercook. Think the Sea Sprite was the same class as the Dart and Fury, all at 109feet, rather than like the eighty odd foot Gazelle...

Nah nah now Colin I was just saying that 2 were built for Scots men thats all lol

You've got more knowlege of the boats from down your way than i'll ever have so don't worry about it.

I can understand about the underpowered bit your saying. The River Dee was lengthened and had a new bigger engine put in her when she went to Orkney and the Speyside had continual engine trouble at the single trawl. When she was sold to Lossiemouth owners they ended up going bust when the engine decided to go bang when they were towing and it was just too expensive to repair. Peterhead men eventually bought her and rebuilt the engine but didn't keep her long , they decommisioned her as soon as they could.

your right the sprite was the bigger, mind as i said before they were all planks.i made more money out of the model than i did all the time i spent at sea in them all together.one trip in the gazelle in the minches we did 7 trawl,s in landed 14 ton to a fish meal wagon and were ordered home after 8 weeks every one landed in debt.best thing about it we were tied up right out side a pub so every thing what was not nailed down got flooged for beer money

cheers for that colin and davie even tho i nearly started heated banter. i was at school we the skippers son o the speyside he started the sea aboard her and i mind every trip without fail he would say something broke or needed fixing. also the under powered thing was an issue as well in weather sure he said it was a 800 blackstone not a small engine either. the fishroom was an issue as well being really small for the size o the boat apparently. at the same time i believe her and the river dee did very well at the pair trawl with some huge landings. she was sold to adam main from lossie then peter simpson went over to sweden for the bck endeavor which became the pd endeavour.
