Britannic

Through the work of some skilled artist, the Britannic is shown as she would have appeared while in peacetime service. The original image is actually a late 1915 hospital ship view that has been heavily worked over. The large gantry davits shown on the ship’s stern were never actually installed, and the artist failed to present the identical set that would have been mounted on her port side. It’s also interesting to note that no single life boats are shown under Welin Davits along her upper deck. It's interesting to compare this picture to other shots of the vessel during her hospital ship days. This stern view is one of two early Hospital Ship pictures of the Britannic that were doctored by White Star to show how the ship would look when she returned to their Atlantic service, a day that unfortunately, would never be realized. Here is a link to the original Hospital Ship view of the ship from which this picture was made. Link: http://www.shipsnostalgia.com/gallery/showphoto.php/photo/332044/title/hmhs-britannic/cat/all

Unlike the gorgeous Olympic and Titanic, a completed Britannic would have looked a mess in comparison.

I suspect that had she suirvived the war she would have been reconfigured to match the OLYMPIC in terms of lifeboat stowage. There was not real advantage to the huge gantry davits. A long row of davits handling just two boats could launch them faster than the gantry could lower five or six boats.
