Clear of the canal and heading Abadan for orders and about to get a bit warmer ... and how. When we got to Ras al Hadd it was just after tea in the evning and we were sitting in our cabin having a smoke and reading a book when we altered course northwards ..... Oh Boy .... SWEAT ... the tap turned on in an instant !! I will NEVER forget it.

Is that a swimming pool, full of sweat, I see before me, or did you just have very large receptacles on the after boat deck for your bunker overflows?

Captain Edge .......... you wouldn't know what sweat was living where you do.

Thems were apparantly the first swimming pools on BP Tankers ....luxury mate.

Mind when I was on the dear old ERNE here in NZ we had the pool full sometimes in winter ..... filled from the condenser!!! Now thats my idea of swimming.

What a bunch of softies! The closest we got to luxury on the old 'Border Boats' was the A.C. unit which could cool either the hospital or the officers smokeroom, but not both. In really hot weather it was used to cool the smokeroom - I'm not sure if anyone ever checked the hospital to see if anyone dying in there needed it - and rank determined how close to the A.C. outlet you got. As a lowly apprentice I admitted defeat and just slept on the boat deck. At least that way I only had to put up with my own B.O.
