You do realise that I always intend on making at least one mistake on my posts in the knowledge that your be right behind me with a correction 😉

I should have known better, after reading the information again I'm surprised that I made that obvious mistake.

I'm going to correct it accordingly.

Sean, I had thought you'd done it on purpose, just to see if we were paying attention.... ;-)
I expect that you know this but just in case others might not be aware of the fact; both Oceanic and Eugenio C were designed by the same naval architect, Nicolo Costanzi.

Clive as if I would have done it on purpose, although I could well have done just to make sure that everyone was on the ball and paying attention 😉

Yes you have assumed correctly, I am aware that Nicolo Costanzi was the naval architect responsible for both the EUGENIO C and OCEANIC. He certainly had a good eye when it came to designing beautiful liners and these were two extremely beautiful liners.

Do you know if he had any input into the design of the DFDS WINSTON CHURCHILL, also built in Italy in 1967 by Cantieri Navali del Tirreno e Riuniti S.P.A. Riva Trigoso, Genoa.

The reason why I'm enquiring about the WINSTON CHURCHILL is the fact that she also had s somewhat similar "swan" like bow and was built by the same Italian shipbuilders albeit in Genoa rather than at Monfalcone.

I've tried searching online but I haven't come across anything regarding who actually designed the WINSTON CHURCHILL. It could well have been just an Italian thing because they certainly built some impressive passenger vessels.

Sean, No, it was Gio Melodia that was responsible for the hull design of the Winston Churchill but from what I can find, he was certainly influenced by Costanzi.
I should also mention that Nicolo Costanzi also designed the Lloyd Triestino liners, Guglielmo Marconi and Galileo Galilei - surely two of the most beautiful liners ever built for the Australia run.

Thanks for confirming that information regarding the DFDS WINSTON CHURCHILL.

No doubt that Gio Melodia was influenced by the great Nicolo Costanzi.

Those two Lloyd Triestino liner's GALILEO GALILEI and GUGLIELMO MARCONI we're also two beautiful examples of the excellent ship's designed by the great Nicolo Costanzi. I have to agree with you that they were surely the two most beautiful liners ever built for the Australian run.

I never saw them in service with Lloyd Triestino but I did in their later life's as the GALILEI/MERIDIAN (GALILEO GALILEI) for Chandris/Celebrity Cruises and COSTA RIVIERA ( GUGLIELMO MARCONI ) for Costa Cruises.

Sean
