Looks a bit like a 47ft Watson with conversion fore and aft of the wheelhouse. The others close to this shape of superstructure are, the Solent, Barnett and Oakley classes.
Yes I first thought Watson 47 but the two I owned in my time did not have the inlet forward. If I am not mistaken, the Barnett 52 has the engine cooling water intakes forward. This is a very tidy conversion, but oh, how do you stop them rolling?
yes ian, the hole is a retro bow thruster.
it was a toss up between a larger watson/solent, and a barnett, but i could only pace it out on the dockside, and that was inconclusive as there were so many pots and netting left close to the dockside so i couln't get an "accurate" paceing done..that and the fact that the kids were screeming for their tea and it was the last hour of our stay on guernsey before boarding the Sea Cat. lol
by the way rose, would that friend be a chap called Neil Gunn with the 47' watson Laura Moncur by any chance. if it is could you please ask him to look at his emails. lol and get in touch with me.
cheers, neil,
Having taken a proper look at this photo, I now see that a bow thruster has been fitted, the sea water intakes of a barnett are a little further aft and lower down. Does anyone know why these intakes were forward? Comparing a photo of my first Watson 47(which I have posted) to this photo I would guess this is indeed a Watson 47.
Ex Sarah Ward &William David Crossweller, formerly Courtmacsherry 45.6 Watson 1929.
Sea water intakes in some boats were in the forward cabin but most of these old petrol driven boats had then beside the engines the holes in the forward hull could be drain tubes from the original forward cuddy she would have had.
