HMS Fife entering Portsmouth to pay off on a damp and overcast day, she was escorted in by RMAS Bustler and Powerful.
She had completed a refit at Portsmouth the previous year (June 1986) when she had been converted into a cadet training ship. The Seaslug system had been removed and extra accommodation for the cadets provided in the former magazine and in a deckhouse built on the quarter deck.
She had completed a series of training cruises, culminating in a visit to North America and the Great Lakes earlier in 1987 before returning to UK to pay off.
She was sold to Chile and renamed BLANCO ENCALADA.
