France

This picture took some work to repair a lot of damage in the sky, but it cleaned up nicely in the end. It shows the France departing what I believe is a port in Florida in 1970. If anyone recognizes any of the tugs, or possibly the building in the background, the location may be better identified. The only info on the picture is the year, 1970. This small boat in the foreground has the words Gulfstream Water Sports, written on its side.

It's absolutely correct that it is Ft Lauderdale as the France never called at Miami only FL in Florida plus the buildings to her bow are totally recognisable as being Ft Lauderdale.

The old Queen Elizabeth would be behind the photographer, preparing for her long voyage to Hong Kong as the Seawise University. Probably one of the last times the two ships would meet, must have been quite a day to be in Fort Lauderdale!

Shaunt6, not behind, but to the right at about 3 o'clock. Eliz was docked at the same slip now used (mostly) by Holland America vessels, identifiable by a half-moon shaped island across the Intracoastal Waterway.
