Hi oliana
Are you able to to say what each unit does? It looks as though the units on either side are duplicates but I cannot imagine what the central panel equipments do.

The outside sets are from top to bottom:-

printer, VHF set, VHF DSC (Digital Selective Calling) transceiver tuned to Channel 70 VHF for transmitiing text messages, Sat 'C' set - for data transfer.

The radio regs require 100% redundancy, hence the identical sets.

In the centre from top to bottom:-

GMDSS scanner, GMDSS alarm panel for sending a distress and at the bottom, a HF/MF transceiver.

Looks like a full station for all area's A1 A2 A3 and A4. What a difference from what we had in the old days. But I think I would rather try and fix the old stuff.

Nobody fixes anything nowadays - they just replace it. Imagine Sparkie 2182 attacking that lot with his little bottle of nail varnish!

Many thanks for the explanation. Are all the units self testing? Emergency service equipments in the UK were always duplicated but were never operated in hot standby.
