My Grandfather took one of these in 1948 20 miles off Fraserburgh when he was Skipper of the Strath Class ( WW1 Admirality pattern Minesweeper/trawler ) steam Trawler Avondee A826. Took it in to the bay at Fraserburgh while they waited for the overworked Bomb Disposal team from Rosyth to make it north.

Minelayer - yes and no.
The picture shows German destroyers which were used for very successful minelaying forays to the British coast!
