The shed in the foreground was used for storing Bales of straw and were strategically placed around the various Wharves. I heard whispers that same beds of straw were used for bedding down local "not" virgins and other sundry bodies. The City Boat would appear to be City of Manchester...maybe the TAINUI at #3 and a Tanker at Oil Wharf.I think it would be possible to ID some of the vehicles especially the Truck...pretty sure I know who operated same. Note Wahine is dressed. Also that whatever was the reason it did not affect the crowd of the City boat who are all hanging over the stern happily painting their wee hearts out. Good photo. KPC

Hi KPC - the image is dated 1966 and I assumed that given the Northern Co vessel is not dressed that it maybe the first visit to Lyttelton of the WAHINE ?
Thanks for your plug much appreciated.
Have a good one.

You are right about the straw sheds KPC..(My lips are sealed)... We used to have a flat deck Bedford truck on the Railways..we would drive down the rake of wagons. and throw the tarps up onto the rail-wagons for the wharfies....memories eh!!!

There was also a TAINUI II, but that was a few years after this photo was taken.
