Hello Duncan , we were there in feb this year and walked around the Mount . this is my most favorite place in NZ and we will be back again in 2009.just a loverly place to relax,If I ever were to move to NZ this is the place for me .
YES I REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME I WENT THERE A LAND AGENT CAME ABOARD TRYING TO SELL SECTIONS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TOWN FOR FIFTY POUNDS EACH THE REPLY WAS WHO WOULD WANT TO LIVE IN THESE SAND HILLS REGRETS I HAVE A FEW BUT THIS IS ONE OF THEM THE LAND AGENT GOT THE LAST LAUGH CHEERS DUNCAN
Very different from the days when the port was full of ships painted green,. and true, who can afford a house there nowdays, unless you have a million or so for the area close to the mount.

I stayed in the motor home park at the base of the mount last December on a 3 week tour of N/Z. Walked to the top of the mount, great views allround. I agree it is one of the best places to visit. Going back next year. Can't wait.
Hi,
I agree, one of our favorite places, spent 3 days there at a posh Motel, complete with Jacuzzi, the wife did not put enough water in,then turned it on,water spouting out all over the bath room, Did anyone try the hot springs baths at the foot of the mount, could spend all day in there.
cheers.
Hi Dab
In the early sixties a couple of my mates and I stayed in the same motor camp as we enjoyed surfing beer and women. We were asleep in our tent and the local police came in and kicked us out of town.
There had been a bit of a riot in the main street so the police kicked all the young guns out of town. We drove thru the night to the Bay of Islands and continued our holiday.
Local holiday batches built after WW2 go on sale in the millions of dollars price range.
