Is she still carrying the WW2 radar lantern on the superstructure forward of the funnels? I couldn't see anything this obvious on photos of her on her maiden commercial voyage in 1946.
Having browsed through my Lizzie books and finding virtually nothing wrt that radar, I'm thinking that it was removed probably during the summer months of 1946 whilst in refurbishment at Southampton. The above picture is possibly after her return trip from the Clyde on 16th June 46.
Perhaps someone will correct me.
Found on photo that might date the photo for 16 June 1946. Clive Harvey's book RMS QUEEN ELIZABETH - The Ultimate Ship. Photo page 59 Shows with the two 'blanked' wheelhouse windows with the 'clear view screens'. That was from the war years. I believe those blanked windows were changed to normal 'clear view screens' BEFORE she went up to the Clyde for speed trials and those blanked windows had been changed BEFORE the drydocking on 7th August. Photo page 60 shows the windows had been changed.
Anyhow, This photo, a bit fuzzy, seems to show the window on the wheelhouse is blanked.
