STRATHATLOW EX GORJISTAN.

STRATHATLOW EX GORJISTAN.

Former Strick Line Ship Gorjistan in P&O GCD Colours at Durban taking bunkers in March 1975, en route to Gulf.
Just finished 25 days at sea.
Phew, what a haul on a ship like this. I was used to 'H' boats.
These had No character, no fun.
Give me NZS any time!!!

Strathatlow was ex Gorjistan, sailed on her 1977, two Persian Gulf (as was ) voyages. Was Capt. Jenkins on her then?

Looks she was flying the "p" flag, don't see that much any more! I was on a couple of Strick boats, Tabaristan and Strathaddie, apart from having Doxford engines, they were no wear near as good as NZS boats. I did however enjoy the Indian crews, cause I love curry!

I think one of the reasons that you don't see the "p" flag anymore, is that the majority of todays modern ships do not stay in port for 24 hours, not like the old days.

Dave,Your right, it was the Gorjistan. A typing error on my part.

Dave,
I seem to remember the Capt was called Jones, a Scotsman with a long beard.
I believe he was ex Strick Line.

I sailed with Capt. Jenkins on the Strathesk, which was one of the Polish built vessels.
The first old man on the Strathatlow when I was on her was an Oz Peter ? from Melbourne area, he had some very good sunset pics from his back door. The second one was an ex Orient/P & O passenger ship man but I don`t remember his name either, never was very good with names I`m afraid.

Well, I don't know about NZS, but my stint on the Baharistan (as Strath something or other) was as much fun as on the Sussex (also as Strath something or other)- so maybe NZS were more fun than Federal - or not ;-) ; Tongariro was no better or worse.

Slight correction robfuscate, Sussex was never a Strath something or other - she was sussex until she was scrapped - and in my opinion the best of the "H" boats.
