Hi
GP
Looks like the same funnel markings of the "Crystal Bell" that I was on in 1962 Paul. Sugar from Cuba to Toronto. I think that there was at least one more "Crystal", the "Crystal Cube". ATB Paul............Peter
Crystal Cube, ship No 666, was the first bulk sugar carrier, completed in 1955 and had what could be termed a raised quarter deck, built by Scotts' in 1955. Sugar Carrier,732, was completed 1974, Sugar Trader 733 completed 1974
ahoy hughcon45.
the Sugar Carrier you sailed was built during 1959 here in Aberdeen by Hall Russells, along with her sisters - Importer (1955), Producer and Transporter (1957) and Refiner (1958).
In a piece of self indulgence, I had a look at my Gallery in order of Most Popular and found that it was this shot that took the accolade. Next is IBN HAYYAN. I suppose one always expects the well known liners and general cargo ships to be in that category and I/m very pleased that these ships have proved to be so interesting to members.
Worked by the Carrier as she completed and was onboard as third engineer when she sailed out on trials. Thanks for posting the pic brings back the memories.
