Ships Nostalgia banner

Holland America Line's TSS STATENDAM passing beneath the Golden Gate Bridge in the mid 1960s.
Oil on canvas, 24 x 36 inches.

Completed this painting about ten years ago. I neglected to take a photo so I asked the owner to take one for me. Because of the camera angle there is some distortion of the image.

When I open the picture it is rotated 90 degrees clockwise (bow at the bottom)

Jim, Hmmm...it is looking OK on my display. Have another go.

Willem Johan.... One of my favourites also. She is one of those 'perfect' ships.... good pleasing design... everything in the right place and one of the best paint schemes ever devised!

Why is this one not in your HAL book?

Simple reason is that it was painted while I was in Sydney and my client... a Snr. V.P. at HAL wanted it as a gift to his wife and I had to get it shipped pronto... and in haste to get it packed and shipped... forgot to take a photo! If I ever do a revised edition I will certainly include it!

A fine ship and a beautiful painting, Stephen. I love the bridge, which gives the ship a sense of fluid movement, as she glides below. Great work, as always. Donald.

Stephen, having driven over the bridge and sailed beneath it, your painting brings back many memories but I would have enjoyed it the better had I seen the ship you have portrayed. It's good to see another of your fine paintings. Keep searching them out for us from past purchasers of your work.
regards
Edgar.
